Chapters 21 and 22 Summary

Dan Singer learns of the attempt to rescue Merrick and his subsequent injury. Nina tells him that the mercenaries want to execute the rescuers at dawn and she doesn't want to be there. Dan makes arrangements to pick her up in a ghost town forty miles away the next day. Mafana lets Juan coordinate the plans for the assault on the prison and he works with the Oregon on the finer points. Then he loads himself with RPG's and straps into the parachute so that one of the trucks can pull him aloft. Once in the air, and within range, he cuts himself free of the truck. Like his men before him, he lands lightly on the roof. He tosses his buck knife lightly to the ground, seating it right behind the middle execution stake. As his men are led out...
