Summary

In Part 2, Day 4, Chapter 36, Cooper had been given the all-clear and was sent to stay in a mansion about 20 miles from Ilmarsh. The authorities were using the house as a base of operations.

Cooper thought of the time in college when she had tried to die by suicide. She had laid down on railroad tracks, but a train never came. She had no way to know that those tracks had been decommissioned. She was not sure why she had wanted to die when she had not even felt sad. She tried not to think about that time in her life.

In Chapter 37, Cooper was accompanied downstairs by a man with a tie. A woman who did not introduce herself asked Cooper to tell her about the horses.
