Summary

In Chapter 29, Mikami drove home, listening to the radio. He had just dropped off his first letter for Hiyoshi to his mother. At home, Minako was seemingly in good spirits and had saved Mikami some food. Minako asked him about the visit seeing Mizuki. She had called Minako that evening and told her that Mikami seemed “overwrought” during his visit (191). Mikami and Minako then began to talk about the planned commissioner’s visit. Minako seemed concerned for her exhausted husband. Mikami then told Minako that Mizuki had received a silent call around the same time that the Amamiyas did. Minako was silent. He tried to make sense of the silence during the calls in order to steer Minako away from the idea that Ayumi was saying goodbye.
