Summary
In Part 1, "July," Chapter 3, July thinks about the trouble she had at school in Oxford. Whenever classmates teased her, September defended July. July always felt better afterwards. Three girls, Kirsty, Jennifer, and Lily, were especially mean, bullying July and September for being different. Then, when Lily discovered July liked her crush, Ryan, things worsened. September invented spells to curse the girls.
One day while shopping with Sheela, July saw Lily. She knew making eye contact was a bad idea. The next day, July saw Lily everywhere at school. During swimming class, after Lily caught July staring at Ryan she shoved July into the side of the pool. In the days afterwards, September would not leave July's side. Neither of the girls told Sheela what had happened. Sheela warned July if the fighting did not stop, September would do something risky. Yet July...
