Summary
In Chapter 8, the novel returns to the present. Julia refuses to come to Thanksgiving at Glory’s, saying Nick is home alone as Nick’s mother has gone to Texas. Julia considers Thanksgiving at Glory’s a fraud because nobody talks about anything real, and Mimi’s whole family hates it. Even when Nick is invited, Julia refuses to come.
In Chapter 9, the novel shifts back in time. Ginger, Glory, Charlie, Mimi, and Callie drive across Martha’s Vineyard toward Fisher’s Hollow. The house is nestled in the woods. Glory believes the house to be beautiful, though the phone is dead. After putting away their things, Glory brings her children grocery shopping.
