Summary

On the morning of October thirteenth Kate settles the children and begins the process of preparing for the coming earthquake, taking things off walls and lugging them and the standing lamp down to the basement for safety. She had already boxed up their dishes. Then Kate makes a shopping list for Target and when Kendra arrives, Kate takes Owen with her once again. At Target, the cashier tells her that they are out of bottled water, and each shipment they get immediately sells out again.

Later Kate goes to Blueberry Hill and orders a hamburger with fries and a beer for lunch. When the waiter leaves, she turns to find Jeremy and Courtney standing there. They join her for lunch and Jeremy asks why Owen isn’t with the sitter along with Rosie. Kate lies, and claims he was fussing and Jeremy seems disappointed...
