Summary
Daisy reflects on when she and Violet were in the eighth grade, and Marisa Mazarelli invited Daisy to her slumber party. Several hours afterward, the first wave of uneasiness had hit Daisy. Violet disliked Marisa, and had informed Daisy that she’d seen her cheating on a math quiz the day before. Violet and Daisy were seldom apart for more than a few classes, and never partook in outside sports or activities but despite that, they did not consider themselves to be friends throughout elementary and middle school. Their mother’s generally suspicious nature prevented them from joining anything so they played together out of necessity, making up games and watching a great deal of television.
