Section 6: Chapter 20-23 Summary

In Chapter 20, Inda stops at Shoreline Village for a walk before trying to drive home, and as she wanders near the docks, she sees Chiquita crying. Inda joins Chiquita and, when Chiquita asks why Inda is crying, tells her she was there to leave Raymond a note. They try to hug away one another's hurt, and a man painting caricatures on the dock asks if they are okay. Saying yes, they quietly walk to Chiquita's car, shaking their heads. In Chapter 21, Valerie feels guilty as she drives home, but having finally got the nerve, she enters her home and asks Walter if he loves her. He tells her "I don't even like you" (page 139).
