Summary

Chapter 20: "In Which My Dad Goes Black Sabbath" begins on the seventh Sunday after Easter at Mass. Simon still has not talked to Kevin and refuses to speak to his mom. However, When Mrs. Pellnor starts hugging Simon and calls his survival a miracle, his dad snaps. He announces that God chooses to send his people into the world to live their own lives, which means that anything can happen. So, his Dad refuses to believe that God planned to let the other students die just to spare Simon. As the congregation goes silent, Simon runs.
