Summary
In Chapter 11, Julian performs his duties as pallbearer at Deborah’s funeral. Many employees of the Secret Service attend the services, and a high-ranking official delivers a eulogy for Deborah. At the subsequent reception, Celia corners Julian and accuses him of informing the authorities that she had received under-the-table payments from Edward in exchange for helping to sell Deborah’s porcelain; Julian denies this. Immediately thereafter, a Service employee approaches Julian and informs him that a senior colleague needs to speak with him. The Service employee then confiscates Julian’s phone and takes him to a secluded farmhouse.
Inside, Julian meets Stewart Proctor. Proctor casually informs Julian that he will be arrested on suspicion of aiding “the Queen’s enemies” (175) if he does not sign a nondisclosure agreement. Julian calmly signs, and Proctor then questions him about his relationship with Edward. Proctor seems...
