Summary
Tristán urgently explains to Montserrat that he has seen Karina’s ghost again, and insists that the time has come to burn all of Ewers’ belongings. Montserrat bristles at this idea and accuses Tristán of being a coward, which prompts him to mock Montserrat for the crush she has on him. Montserrat heads to Antares to pick up her bonus check, but learns from Samuel, her effective replacement, that Mario has left the city. At home, Tristán is waiting for her, and offers to help her track down Clarimonde Bauer; while they talk, he gets a call from Marisa Montero asking him to meet her. Montserrat encourages Tristán to bring a protective sigil, which prompts him to recall the secret language they invented when they were children. Montserrat realizes that this secret language will work perfectly as a substitute...
