Summary

Part II: The Wasteland continues in Chapter 14 as they all ride together. The knight with Tamsin introduces herself as Betrys, but does not answer more questions about Avalon. Tamsin wonders how the priestesses changed so much from Nash's stories and why Avalon is decaying. They reach a tower built into an ancient tree which Betrys says is the mother: the first gift of the Goddess. As they cross a bridge into a courtyard, all of their bags are taken and they are locked in the dungeon.

Tamsin checks on Neve who says the spell was cast when she panicked. However, she is distracted by fungi in the cell, calling them harbingers of death. Emrys, however, explains they decompose things to return their nutrients to the soil. Neve thinks the tree must connect to the wildlife in Avalon, which could explain why...
