Summary
The novel starts seven years ago in Lancashire England with Tamsin, a Hollower, who is angry that Nash and Cabell left her behind. As soon as she hears Cabell's voice, Tamsin enters a doorway into a Vein. Nash warns her to never do anything without knowing the cost, but Tamsin ignores him. She explains Cabell is the first one in centuries who can redirect a curse from one source to another, but cannot break his own.
Then, it is revealed that Tamsin does not have her own magic and requires the Hand of Glory to see any. She hates being different, but accepts the hand, calling it Ignatius. While Tamsin is worried about the number of curse sigils, Cabell refuses to rest. So, She searches the cavern, but finds dozens of frozen bodies that trigger Cabell's transformation. Nash...
