Summary

In Chapter Three, the Darkling ordered the whaling ship North, past the two islands, Jelka and Vilki, and into the Bone Road, which was an endless stretch of dark water where many ships had wrecked on islands that disappeared in the mists. Usually, only Fjerdan hunters came this far North, and Alina could not imagine what the Darkling wanted to gain from this reckless excursion. Eventually, the Darkling revealed that he was looking for a second one of Morozova’s amplifiers for Alina. Alina though he was mad, because all the history books indicated only one amplifier could be worn by a Grisha. The Darkling told Mal he must find the ice dragon, Rusalye, or else he would harm Alina.
