Summary

Chapter 9

Sia arrives downstairs for lunch with her mother who comments on Sia’s lack of makeup. She’s amazed at how “fancy” the meal is served. She learns there is a tennis court and swimming pool on the grounds and that she has a new car, a gift for her previous birthday. Sia questions her mother and discovers the family has a film company. Janet says Sia wants to be an actress, but Sia says she now can’t imagine being in the spotlight on that level. Janet says Raymond has been on the lookout for an appropriate role for Sia. Sia thanks Beatriz for the wonderful meal. It’s obvious that Beatriz is not accustomed to the praise. Sia announces that she plans to go to school the following day just as Beatriz announces she has guests.
