Summary
In chapter 11 Agnes wakes up and finds the house empty. She reasons that Shuggie has gone off himself to school. She searches the house for alcohol, but she is unable to find any. She then goes in search of some money to buy alcohol, however it is told how Agnes has already spent her allowance from the benefits program on beer. Agnes begins looking for things to pawn in order to raise money to support her drinking habit. She decides to pawn her mink coat that Brenden had bought for her. Agnes dresses herself up extravagantly and sets out for the pawnshop on foot. Along the way it begins to rain. She stops into an auto mechanic's shop to use the restroom. When she emerges from the restroom, the mechanic offers her tea, confronts her for being desperate and alcoholic, and suggests that...
