Summary

In H, Henry remembers that his father did not have any friends when Henry was a child. He knew his mother and father were busy with the dairy herd, and that his father counted on his wife and family to be his friends. He thought his father was happy, and that he was proud of him, Beth, and the children. On the other hand, though, Henry felt in his own life that there had never been a time that he had been without friends. He wondered if his father did not have friends because he did not want to open the door to opportunity. Henry remembered all of the times that Lee visited them and felt violated. He decided the best thing to do might be to be alone so he would not have to worry about having that sort of trouble again.
