Chapters 13 and 14 Summary

Jamie finds the Colonel tending his garden. She asks him to keep Private Hollister from going to Vietnam. The Colonel admits that he tried to pull some strings with a Gnereal he knows to keep TJ from going to Vietnam and it didn't work. He tells Jamie that Vietnam is a pointless war and one that they aren't going to win. This talk shocks Jamie. The Colonel says she is the only one that knows he tried to pull strings to keep TJ out of Vietnam. When Jamie asks if the Colonel will help Private Hollister, the Colonel says he'll think about it.

Right before school starts, Jamie and the private finish their game. Jamie wins. When school starts, she meets a girl who is the photographer for the school paper, but she can't develop the pictures because she's allergic to...
