Summary
In March of 1971, Knight brings Kitami to the U.S. to show him their success. Kitami inadvertently insults most of their team, rejects the idea of using the trading company, and is rude to the bankers. This drives Knight to peek inside Kitami’s briefcase, and he finds in there a plan to meet with many U.S. shoe distributors.
Kitami meets with the others, then comes back and offers Blue Ribbon a deal— to give over majority control to Onitsuka by selling 51%. Knight stalls, letting Kitami know that he has to discuss the option of a takeover with Bowerman. He realizes that he has to replace Onitsuka, and finds a shoe factory in Mexico.
He calls up Carolyn Davidson to create a new logo for these shoes. They also brainstorm, and decide to name the company Nike. Meanwhile, the first pairs of...
