Summary
“The Best and Only Whore of Cwm Hyfryd, Patagonia, 1886” takes place in South America in the 1880s. The protagonist is a woman from Wales who has relocated to a Welsh settlement in Patagonia. One of her main occupations is as a sex worker, although she also farms, sews, and had other occupations. She generally enjoys her life, although she has no luxuries to speak of. She also mostly enjoys her career as a sex worker, but not always. She keeps up a correspondence by mail with her brother, who is back in Wales. She misrepresents her life in these letters, as she does not want her brother to worry needlessly.
