The Marburg Sisters Summary
The Marburg family history begins with Leo Marburg, who started a winery in Hammondsport, New York, near the west shore of Keuka Lake. The winery does well because of some unconventional but insightful early decisions made by Leo. The winery passes to Leo's son Theo, who runs it well and makes many improvements. Theo marries Suky and they have two children, both girls, Rose and Bianca. Both daughters are named after aspects of wine as the winery culture penetrates all aspects of the family's life. Rose is one year older and is the narrator of the story. Both girls probably are born in the 1950s, and Rose tells the story from 1991. When Rose is ten and Bianca is nine, Suky is killed in an accident. Theo buries himself in winery management and the two girls run wild. As teenagers...
