Chapter 21

Knot teaches Nailer how to read. Knot explains that their loyalty to Nita’s father is good until Nita is dead. Nita’s father is determined to get her back, so they serve Nita’s father. Knot explains that some families are different. Not all of them involve brutality.

Chapter 22

The Dauntless comes upon the Ray and gives chase. Marn, the Ray’s captain, veers and dodges to avoid them. But, the Dauntless catches them. Captain Candless demands takes control and has Nailer try to find Nita. Candless orders the ship torn apart looking for Nita. Marn scoffs that they could never trust Candless. But, it is a trap. The Pole Star appears on the horizon. They use their cannon to disable the Ray. Candless knows they have to run far and fast. Hopefully, the Pole Stars wants to take them prisoner...
