Chapter 11

Nailer wakes up. His arm is inflamed and painful. He has used it too much since being injured. Pima and Lucky Girl are already awake and making a fire. Lucky Girl goes down to the ship to get sugar, while Pima tells Nailer not to trust her. Pima has been asking her about her family, but Lucky Girl has not been forthright in answering. She is hiding something. They also realize how Lucky Strike’s money pales in comparison to the stuff on the ship and what rich people have. Pima wonders if her mother can come with them and leave if Lucky Girl is being truthful. Lucky Girl returns with the sugar. She announces that Nailer’s back is infected. She has been trained in first aid at school. Lucky Girl announces there should be something useful in the medical closet...
