Summary

In Chapter 56, Danny runs to his mother and Hallorann as Jack goes downstairs in the elevator. Danny shines to Hallorann that the boiler is about to explode. Danny grabs coats for himself and his mother. Hallorann suddenly gets a vision of the ballroom clock and realizes how short the time is. He picks up both Danny and Wendy and runs with them to the doors. Jack reaches the boiler and releases the valve, but it is too late. The explosion throws Hallorann, Wendy, and Danny over the hedge animals still waiting outside the front doors. Hallorann turns himself over to watch the hotel burn.
