Summary
The next chapter of Book Two is titled “Disappeared,” and returns the narrative’s focus to June Dey and Norman Aragon. They are visited and cared for by a beautiful woman named Sia, to whom June Dey becomes very attracted. Meanwhile, Norman continually shouts questions to whoever he sees passing, particularly interested in who Sam is. Many times, they are visited by children, who use the chance to learn English without really answering Norman’s questions. Eventually, he and June Dey learn that Sam had been from another village and had settled in this smaller village for a while, before taking a group of boys with him to the coast to find work. When they did not return, the men of the village went to see if there was anything wrong. The men have not returned either. Meanwhile, June Bey continues to watch Sia...
