Summary

Chapter Nine returns to Anfeng as the Prime Minister praises Zhu’s success and declares her a commander. Little Guo demands that Zhu take the walled city of Lu and she agrees. As the ministers leave, Guo says she will be killed if she fails, but says she will not.

That night, Ma hears Commander Sun Meng tell Little Guo that Chen was hoping he would fail and Ma worries about his arrogance. Little Guo calls her opinions useless and leaves as Sun tells her their victory is coming.

Later, Zhu sees Ma protecting an old woman from men who throw her aside once they realize she is Little Guo’s betrothed. Ma is frustrated at how the people are treated and eventually agrees to teach Zhu how to ride a horse.
