Chapter 1 - tuesday

The morning of April 20, 1999, started out similar to every other school day in the household. Brad, the author's husband, left for work at 5:45 AM, and a bit later Misty, the author, woke up the children. Cassie didn't want to get up because she had gone to bed late the night before as she caught up with her homework. They were behind schedule, but at 7:20 AM, Chris headed out the door with his sister Cassie close behind. Her mother noted that the girl wore her favorite Doc Martens shoes. Her mom told her that she loved her, and Cassie responded that she loved her, too. The girl continued to walk to school, which was only a hundred yards away.
