Juliette Ferrars
Juliette is the teenage protagonist of the novel. She once lived with parents who could not stand her and considered her a monster as did others around her because she has a touch that is so painful that it can be lethal. Because of this ability, Juliette has been shunned by her family and her community and was often the victim of verbal, emotional, and physical abuse. She has been in many different treatment centers and detention facilities as she has been unwanted by everyone around her. At the age of 14, she accidentally killed a small child as she was trying to help him. She was incarcerated for this and was eventually placed in the cell that she is in at the beginning of the novel.
Juliette's time alone has caused much emotional damage. She considers herself insane after some time and she has lost the ability...
