Nainoa Flores
Nainoa Flores, or Noa, is the second son of Malia and Augie Flores. He is the brother of Dean and Kaui Flores, and one of the primary first person narrators of the novel. When Noa is just a small boy, he and his family go out on a boat. He falls into the water amidst a swarm of sharks. Just when the family is convinced he will be killed, the sharks miraculously deliver his body back up to the boat. The shark deliverance marks the beginning of Noa's sudden supernatural capabilities. On New Year’s, not long after, Noa heals a young boy’s badly burned hand just by touching it. When the community gets word of Noa's powers, they begin flocking to the Flores house.
