The Need for Acceptance

Acceptance of one’s fate is hard to come by in the novel, but throughout the novel, happiness cannot be found unless one accepts their circumstances and decides to live the life they are given to the best of their ability. This is primarily shown through the characters of Lewis and Wren.

Lewis’s career is one area where he must find acceptance. He fights for many years in New York to be accepted into the theater community, but he can never break into the industry. He is unhappy as he tries, but once he comes to the conclusion that he will not make it big in New York, he moves back to Texas, falls in love, and starts teaching theater.
