Falcons
Falcons are symbolic of the way a pregnancy can place a woman at risk, and they are also emblematic of the novel’s pro-choice stance. The Tiny Pregnant Woman cannot terminate her falcon pregnancy because of restrictions her religion places on her, but there is a high likelihood she could die from this pregnancy, and in fact she does, because the baby falcons are likely to peck at her from the inside. These birds represent the danger that pregnancy can present to a woman.
