Lewis
Lewis is one of the protagonists of the novel. He is married to Wren, and he is a dynamic character both physically and psychologically. In the novel’s flashbacks, the reader learns that Lewis used to have a desire to be a stage actor, but he was never able to break into the New York theater industry. He remained persistent as he chased his dreams, but eventually decided to return back to Texas. He begins to teach theater, and his legacy persists in the students he teaches. Despite his willingness to face failure when he was younger as an actor, he is no longer willing to fail now that he is older, and he turns down Wren’s proposal for him to return to acting.
