Chapters 36-39 Summary

The nine survivors at the camp discussed their options, as they ran out of food. They sent a scout to find the enemy positions but he never returned.Another man, Juma, volunteered to search for the first, and the leader, Suleiman allows him to go. At midnight Habib appears and tells them the only way out is to the southeast. They decide they will eat the last of the goat meat and stage their breakout attack the next morning.

Lindsay talks to Khaled who tells him that Khader never meant to hurt him. He went about it the wrong way. Lindsay also learns that Khaled had lived with Karla. Their relationship ended when Linsday appeared. After their discussion, Khaled kills Habib. He then empties all of his pockets and walks out of the camp, reciting the Koran as he disappears.
