Chapter Eight Summary
Lily arrives to clean Carrie's clinic and finds it empty. A note tells her that Carrie has taken the day off to help Claude move to the apartment on the first floor at the apartment complex. Lily is a bit disconcerted by the developing relationship between Carrie and Claude, but happy for them at the same time.
After finishing up for the day Lily heads into the area of Shakespeare that surrounds the bombed church. Lily arrives at the home of Callie Gandy, the housekeeper and shows her the ring that Arnita Winthrop had given her. The maid wants to know why Lily has Mrs. Winthrop's ring, which tells Lily that the older woman had lied to her about the ring being Marie Hofstettler's.
