Summary
In Chapter 30, Diana and Matthew join Rudolf on a hunt using birds. There is a conflict when Matthew's bird takes prey from Rudolf's, and the scene ends with someone suggesting a feast. Rudolf wants a play and Diana makes a suggestion that keeps some distance between herself and Rudolf. That night, Gallowglass takes everyone from the house, leaving Diana and Matthew alone. He says everyone can tell they are at odds and that it upsets Jack, who is already struggling with nightmares. Diana forces Matthew to talk to her about what is bothering him. He finally acknowledges that he desires her blood. Between vampires, this sharing of blood is a way to ensure there are no secrets. Diana assure him she is willing but does not force it, and Matthew finally drinks from her, choosing a spot just above her heart and drinking...
