Summary
In Chapter 23, Goody assures Diana that all the witches of the Garlickhythe gathering (the smaller group of witches that includes Goody) had lost children, either through miscarriage or death at a young age. Diana is hurt that Matthew spends so much time away from her and swears he will not touch her sexually until they are back in their own time with better medical care. He often feeds and comes home drunk on the opiates in the blood he drinks. Pierre announces that Agnes Sampson, the woman accused of witchcraft in Scotland who is also a weaver, has been executed. Matthew is torn about the situation in ways he was not when he lived in the 1590s the first time. Diana points out that he has changed because of his love for her, a witch.
