Summary
In Chapter 19, a 14-year-old witch named Annie Undercroft introduces herself to Diana and Matthew, saying Father Hubbard sent her. Annie explains that her mother died when she was six, her aunt's husband refused to take Annie in, and she has lived with Hubbard's group since then. Diana notes that Hubbard takes good care of the males of his group but Annie's clothes do not fit and she looks malnourished. Annie's aunt is out of town serving as a midwife, and Annie is to introduce Diana to her when she returns. Within days, Annie settles into the household with new clothes and food, and begins to successfully run errands for Diana. Pierre obviously likes her and goes out of his way to entertain her. Diana spends some time with Mary one day. Matthew and Henry join them later and Mary presents Diana and Matthew...
