Darren Flynn

Darren is the 16-year-old protagonist of Sexy. At the start of his junior at North Falls High, Darren joins the varsity swimming and diving team, hoping to prove himself as an athlete and earn a college scholarship after he graduates. Despite his participation on the swim team, Darren is not primarily known for being a jock. Rather, everyone in town and in school, is enamored by Darren because of his shocking good looks and mild-mannered character.

Throughout the novel, Darren tries to balance his family and peers' expectations for his success. Though he is comfortable with his swim team buddies, Darren is awkward around girls, uncomfortable with how much attention they give him. The one exception is Molly Rawlings, in whom Darren finds a true kinship.
