Eva

Eva is the main character of the novel. Eva grows up without a father. She lives with her mother, Lizette. Because Lizette is constantly dating messy, abusive men, Eva and Lizette move often. Their home life is always violent, tense, and dangerous to Eva's psyche. When she is a young girl, she becomes addicted to painkillers. Then, while in high school, Eva grows tired of always being the misfit. Because she moves so often and because she is different from her classmates, she has no friends. One day, she meets a boy named Shane. They get along immediately, and become close friends. However, their friendship is not healthy. They do not discourage one another's addiction issues, and spend most of their time taking drugs and drinking. While together one day, Eva overdoses.
