Section 10: Chapters 23 & 24 Summary

The next morning in Chapter 23, Glisselda confronts Seraphina; her encounter with Imlann demonstrates loyalty, so she does not understand why Lucian is angry with her. When Seraphina admits that she lied to Lucian, Glisselda offers to arrange a reconciliation. Late that night, Seraphina wakes to the smell of smoke, visiting her garden when she realizes her rooms are fine. In her mental garden, she finds Fruit Bat lying on her flaming memory box in an attempt to protect her. When she questions him, she learns that his real name is Abdo and he knows three of the other grotesques in reality. Entering one of Linn's memories, Seraphina learns that Imlann and a cabal of ten generals plot against Comonot, and despite the danger to her secret, Seraphina knows that she must share this information.
