Summary
On July 15, 2008, 37 children leave a shelter to be reunited with their parents at Port Isabel. However, when they arrive, they are told paperwork is not complete, and the children must wait in the vans. It takes 39 hours to reunite all children. This fiasco causes Lloyd to be completely sidelined from the reunification process, and White takes control. The deadline for reunification, July 26, 2018 passes because 711 children are yet to be reunited, and 431 have parents have already been deported. The Senate Judiciary Committee calls in officials involved. Here, White becomes the lone official who is willing to testify that separation causes traumatic psychological injury to a child.
