Summary
Soboroff is allowed entrance into Border Patrol’s Central Processing Center (CPC). Border Patrol officials inform journalists that separations have stopped for children five years and younger. 1,174 children had been separated since the policy went into effect, a number reflecting 40% of families being separated. The 75,000 square foot facility provides intake and medical screenings and has holding pods made of chain link fence. There are four social workers for the hundreds of children housed. From May 5 to June 9, 2018 more than 2,300 children had been separated from their parents. In mid-June, Nielsen once again denies there is a policy of separating families at the border.
