Summary
Annelise panics when she hears the sharp sound of knocking at the door. She reaches for her baby. She does not have any idea what time it is or who may be knocking. She clutches her baby and prays for their safety.
Flashing back to the past in Germany, Klara works in the family’s bakery while her daughter, Annelise, wakes up. Klara is enraged by her daughter’s laziness and snaps. She quickly wishes that she had not snapped at her teenage daughter and thinks about all of the moments that Annelise has been helpful without praise.
Annelise is not interested in continuing the family business and working in the bakery, but she has no idea what she will do otherwise. She has already finished high school and knows that all that awaits her is marriage and motherhood. She has been secretly dating...
