Summary
In Chapter 42, on the stand, Bobby explained that when his draft notice came he was a scared boy who was not good at defending people who needed defending. Joseph spoke up and warned Bobby that he did not need to do what he was about to do.
Bobby continued, telling how their mother had asked Joseph to take Bobby’s place when the draft notice came. Bobby said that Joseph had even used his name when he enlisted.
