Summary
Chapter eleven winds the clock back to August 3rd to find Bridget overhearing Mr. and Mrs. Borden talking while she sweeps. Their voices remind her of the previous summer, when they left and their daughters bought southern fruits. They shared an orange with Bridget, and she thinks about how that will not happen again as she picks up an orange peel from the kitchen floor.
Bridget overhears the older Bordens discussing Lizzie’s now dead pet pigeons. The conversation eventually moves to John, and Mr. Borden is upset that Lizzie did not inform the rest of the family that he planned to visit. Bridget stops listening when Lizzie enters the house, having been out.
Lizzie goes to her room, where she berates Bridget for leaving the remnants of her cleaning. Lizzie then asks why Bridget cleaned her room in the first place, not liking...
