Summary

Chapter Nine begins at the same time chapter seven ends in Lizzie’s perspective. Lizzie creeps downstairs to see the bodies of her father and step-mother laid out, covered by sheets, on the dining room table. She speaks to the bodies, wondering if she will miss her father, remembering how Mrs. Borden’s habits annoyed her.

Lizzie returns upstairs and goes to the room Mrs. Borden was found in. She lingers there, but quickly runs to her room when she hears a police officer return downstairs. Once inside her room, Lizzie carefully calms herself before dressing to resume the day. As she readies herself, she recalls her nightmares from her nap and wishes Emma would come in and shower her with attention.

In Lizzie’s nightmare she wakes up from a nightmare during Emma’s time away from home and goes to her parents...
