Alix tries to walk to clear her head, but the morning brings her no peace. Images of the past and present crash together in a kaleidoscope of sights, sounds and smells that she cannot shake. All she wants is a sign that what she is doing is right, that she has not been manipulated and that everything will be all right. Instead, she sees the camps, smells the burning flesh of those burned by the Nazis and hears the screams in her mind. For a moment, she almost loses control, unable to understand how any of it could even have happened, and then her mind clears as she sees the Soldier striding towards her.
