In the West End business district of Frankfurt, James Burns has his two-room office. It consists of himself and a nineteen-year-old girl named Sigi who works for him. When he gets upstairs, he sees a one-word message that tells him his wife called, so he dials his home number and waits for an answer. Beethoven is playing loudly in the background as his daughter answers, and they begin to joke back and forth on the phone just as his secretary's door swings open, and he finds himself staring at Sigi tied up in a chair.
