Book 1: Dr. David Strauss, Part Three: Chapters 26 - 29 Summary
Alix and David have known each other since childhood. They are actually third or fourth cousins, but neither can ever remember which. They spent many holidays together and dated during that awkward phase at the age of fifteen and again in college. They may have continued on had Alix not left suddenly to pursue modeling interests. She often tells interviewers that she is determined to be the best at whatever she does so that her life has meaning, otherwise she may as well have died with the others in the camps. David decided to be a doctor. Despite their different directions, they stay in touch over the years, usually when one or the other needed a stable ear from the past to lament to.
