Summary
In Chapter Thirty-six, Rafe and Ari are stuck together on an elevator as they return from watering the plants of one of Ari’s professor friends. During the time, Ari asks Rafe to tell her about his time in South America. He starts out by talking about the way he treated women after his ex-wife left him. That he was cold and calculating but that Ari had changed that without him even realizing it. He tells her about the man whose wife dies in childbirth, then he kills himself, not wanting to go on alone. He says that his love for Ari is so strong that he does not want to live without her.
